Introducing The Spine Health Centre

Effective osteopathic treatment and management requires a good working diagnosis, which sometimes involves X-ray, Ultra-sound, MRI or CT scans to image the problem area. We at the Spine Health Centre have direct access for most types of scans.

Our Team

The Spine Health Centre has built a reputation on providing effective osteopathic healthcare for the local community, as well as being proactive and responsive to our patients needs. Our goal is to create and maintain a professional relationship with you, in order to help you achieve pain free movement and health throughout your busy lives.

Osteopath

Darcy Jones
Darcy Jones
Registered Osteopath

Mr Darcy Jones, Registered Osteopath.

Darcy gained his Diploma in Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy in 1984, now the University College of Osteopathy in London and has been in practice as a Registered Osteopath in Basingstoke and North Hampshire up to the present.

He trained at a post-graduate level in Cranial Osteopathy from 1986 and has been combining conventional (structural) osteopathy with this more subtle cranial approach ever since. He finds it beneficial for adults as well as some conditions such as colic and poor sleep patterns in babies.

Darcy has good working relationships with a number of spinal and neuro-surgeons, especially at Spine Works in Basingstoke and The London Spine Clinic. He has extensive experience in the conservative management of back pain caused by spinal disc disease.

He has an interest in metabolic bone disease and in the year 1999, trained in diagnosis and management of osteoporosis from the Osteoporosis Research Centre Southampton University Department of Rheumatology setting up a bone scanning unit to diagnose osteoporosis clinic in Basingstoke. This ran as a charity for 4 years.

Darcy is committed to ongoing, Continuing Professional Development and has attended many post-graduate courses, including Cranial Osteopathy Pilates as well as Reiki Healing, Dream Therapy and Bach Flower Therapy.

Another area of interest for Darcy is yoga, which he practices himself and recommends to many patients - who find it a very effective way of managing more long term back problems.

By keeping up to date with advances in osteopathy Darcy ensures that patients receive the best possible treatment and advice. Darcy is a member of The General Osteopathic Council and the Institute of Osteopathy.

Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful and pain free movement.

Pilates is one of the most popular exercise systems in the country. Indeed, one of the best things about the Pilates method is that it works well for a wide range of people; from athletes and dancers to the elderly. As well as women rebounding from pregnancy and people who are at various stages of physical rehabilitation. The top benefits doing of Pilates exercise that people report are that they become stronger, longer, leaner, and more able to do anything with grace and ease.

Pilates
Yoga

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago and is now commonplace in leisure centres, health clubs, schools, hospitals and surgeries.

There are a number of important scientific trials which have been published on yoga. The most notable recently, is the University of York’s yoga and back pain trial which found yoga exercises more effective than other physical interventions for patients with chronic back pain. This is very good news as it is proven to be a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. Regular yoga practice is also beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, depression and stress.
